Abstract

As a first electrode E1 carries the insulated wire 24 towards a conductive pad P1 on a printed circuit board, a plunger PL causes a right angle to be formed in the wire. A second electrode E2 then moves with the first electrode until the second electrode contacts the pad. The first electrode then continues to move to cause the insulation on the wire to be broken and the first electrode, the wire and the pad to come into electrical contact whereby the wire can be resistance welded to the pad by passing an electrical current between the two electrodes. <IMAGE>
