Abstract

A fusible coating composition comprises a mixture of discrete particles of (a) powdered polyvinylchloride and an epoxy resin and (b) powdered polyvinylchloride and a hardener for an epoxy resin: each of the compositions (a) and (b) is obtained by heating together the individual components without melting the polymer which absorbs the other materials and cooling. The vinyl chloride polymer may contain minor amounts of copolymerized vinyl acetate, vinylidene chloride or an acrylic or methacrylic ester. Each composition (a) and (b) may also contain a plasticizer, e.g. dioctyl phthalate and a stabilizer, e.g. dibasic lead phthalate or a thio-tin stabilizer. The epoxy resin if solid, may be added as a solution in the plasticizer or in an example, a mixture of carbitol acetate and cyclohexanone. Epoxy resins used in the Examples are identified as " Araldite " X83/178 and " Epikote " 1007 (Registered Trade Marks). Specified hardeners are diethylaminopropylamine and dicyandiamide. The compositions are used for coating steel, brass or aluminium by spraying or a fluidized bed technique.ALSO:A fusible coating composition comprises a mixture of discrete particles of (a) powdered polyvinylchloride and an epoxy resin and (b) powdered polyvinylchloride and a hardener for an epoxy resin: each of the compositions (a) and (b) is obtained by heating together the individual components without melting the polymer which absorbs the other materials and cooling.
