Abstract

A water drip for mounting above a door or window comprises a mounting member (2) which is hingedly connected to a canopy (4) by means of an integral web of flexible material (6) and assembled by engagement of leg 8 with the mounting member 2. <IMAGE>

Description

SPECIFICATION Weather Trim This invention relates to a weather trim articles suitable for use with door and window frames.
A weather trim is known which comprises an aluminium extrusion which has an approximately Y shaped form viewed in cross section.
The adjacent arms are resiliently movable together and apart so that they may be sprung over mountings provided along the upper edge of a door or window frame. In this position, the leg portion of the weather trim projects outwardly and downwardly so as to provide a canopy to deflect water from the joint between the frame and the door or window mounted in the frame.
The invention consists of a weather trim article as claimed in Claim 1 hereof.
Special mountings do not have to be provided on the frame or surface to which the weather trim is to be attached. Instead, fixings can be provided through the mounting member, the heads of the fixings being subsequently concealed in the enclosed space formed by the canopy and by the leg when the latter is carried by the pivotal movement of the canopy into engagement with the mounting member.
The canopy and mounting member are preferably formed integrally, such as by extrusion, the parts being hingedly connected together by a continuous web of flexible plastics material.
This form of construction facilitates manufacture as well as providing a leak proof hinge.
In order to secure the canopy in its final position to deflect water away from a joint beneath it, the leg is preferably inter-engaged with the mounting member by means of a resiliently deformable clip. The leg, together with it associated clip may also be formed integrally with the mounting member and canopy.
Fixings, such as self tapping screws, may be inserted through the mounting member, to secure the weather trim article to a frame or other surface. The heads of the fixings are subsequently concealed in the enclosure formed by the canopy and the leg when the latter is pressed into engagement with the mounting member.
An embodiment will now be described by way of example only with reference to the accompanying drawings in which Figure 1 is a cross section of a plastics weather trim for a door or window with the parts thereof shown in first position and; Figure 2 is a cross section, on a relatively reduced scale, of the weather trim article shown in Fig. 1 with the parts thereof shown in a second position.
Referring to Fig. 1 a weather trim article in the form of PVC extrusion comprises a mounting member 2 and a canopy 4 which are interconnected by an integral flexible webs of material 6. The canopy 4 carries a resilient integral leg 8 an end portion of which is formed with a clip element 10.
The mounting member 2 is formed with a resilient projecting leg 12 the end portion of which is formed with a clip element 14 which is resiliently engageable with the complimentary clip element 10.
With the canopy 4 in the relative angular position to the mounting member 2, as shown in Fig. 1, fixings, are not shown, may be inserted through the mounting member 2 to engage with a frame or other vertical surface 16.
Subsequently, the canopy 4 is rotated about the flexible web 6, to the position shown in Fig. 2. The legs 8 and 12 are caused to resiliently deform to allow catch elements 10 and 14 to firmly inter-engage.
The fixing means are then concealed within the enclosure 18 (Fig. 2) formed by the canopy 4 and engaged leg 8.
1. A weather trim article comprising a mounting member and a canopy hingedly attached to the mounting member, the canopy carrying a leg which is inter-engageable with the mounting member whereby, on inter-engagement, at least a portion of the mounting member is enclosed by the canopy and by the leg.
2. An article as claimed in Claim 1 wherein the mounting member and the canopy are integrally formed and hingedly connected together by a continuous web of flexible plastics material.
3. An article as claimed in Claim 1 or 2 in which the leg is inter-engageable with the mounting member by means of a resiliently deformable clip.
4. An article as claimed in any preceding claim in which an enclosable portion of the mounting member is adapted to receive fixing means by which the article may be fixed to a frame or other surface.
5. An article as claimed in any claim 1-3 in the form of a unitary extrusion of plastics material.
6. An article substantially as described with reference to the accompanying drawings.
