Abstract

A fishing rod is provided with a telescopically mounted butt section 11 with means for locking said section in an adjusted position, the rod having means for carrying a fishing line reel adjacent said section. <IMAGE>

Description

SPECIFICATION Fishing rod This invention relates to fishing rods. As is well known, such rods are made of different lengths and resiliency, but often an angler has difficulty in using a rod owing to the location of the reel in reiation to his stature. Further, whilst the length of the rod may be correct for one function such as casting it does not follow that the same length of rod is entirely suitable for another function such as playing and landing a fish.
According to this invention the rod has a telescopically mounted butt section with means for locking said section in adjusted position, the rod having means for carrying a fishing line reel adjacent said section.
This enables the rod length and reel position with respect to the end of the butt section to be adjusted easily and quickly even when fishing.
Preferably the rear end of the rod is hollow and the butt section slides therein.
The section can be locked or released by any convenient means, e.g. an eccentric friction or wedge lock.
An embodiment according to the invention will now be described with reference to the accompanying diagrammatic drawings in which: Figure 1 is a fragmentary sectional view and Figure 2 shows the rod in extended and closed positions.
As shown 10 is the end of the rod proper which is hollow. A butt section 11 slides in the end 10 and a quick release lock arrangement consists of a bush 12 with eccentric pin 13, so that from the release position when the butt section is turned relatively to the hollow rod, the parts 10, 11 are locked up.
The maximum extension is defined by a cord or the like 13a, the ends being secured to eyes 14, 15.
With the rod according to the invention an angler can adjust the length of the butt section and so the position of the reel from the rod butt end, to suit his personal requirements and circumstances.
The angler is enabled to tailor the rod to his personal requirements and also to make quick adjustments to the length of the butt end whilst fishing.
1. Afishing rod having atelescopically mounted butt section with means for locking said section in adjusted position, the rod having means for carrying a fishing line reel adjacent said section.
2. A fishing rod as claimed in claim 1 wherein the rear end of the rod is hollow and the butt section slides therein.
3. A fishing rod as claimed in claim 2, wherein the section engages in the said rod end by an eccentric, friction or wedge lock.
4. A fishing rod as claimed in claim 3, wherein the end of the section within the rod carries a bush with an eccentric pin whereby the section can be locked or released by relative turning of the section and rod end.
5. A fishing rod as claimed in claim 2,3 or4, wherein means are provided to define the maximum extension of the section.
6. A fishing rod having a telescopic butt section, substantially as herein described with reference to the accompanying drawings.
The drawings originally filed wasiwere informal and the print here reproduced is taken from a later filed formal copy.
