Abstract

A carburetter nozzle 1 or a filament extrusion nozzle has its effective outlet controlled by a shape memory effect material, e.g. an alloy of 70% Cu, 26% Zn and 4% Al, in response to the temperature of the fluid flowing therethrough. The SME material may comprise a preformed heat treated ring 3 secured around a stainless steel, brass or bronze nozzle 1. The nozzle may be formed of SME material or its outlet defined by a ring of the material in a tube of non SME material. A non SME nozzle may be positioned relative to a needle (14), Fig. 6 (not shown), by a spring (25) of SME material. <IMAGE>
