Abstract

The specification describes a high pressure fluid pump having a novel valving arrangement. Prior art valving arrangements have not proved satisfactory for pumps working at pressures of 300 bars or higher. The described radial piston pump comprises a body 1 in which is located a drive shaft 3 carrying three eccentrics 5. Each eccentric 5 drives a movable piston 9 in a respective cylinder 2. A groove 7 is machined in each eccentric and communicates with the interior of the piston during a portion of each stroke. Each piston is provided with a plurality of radial bores 19 which open into a circumferential groove 17. The grooves 17 are located in outlet chambers 16 connected to a delivery conduit 18. A valve comprising a part cylindrical leaf-spring 21 is located in each groove to close the radial bores 19. In use fluid enters the pump through conduit 8 and flows to the interior of the pistons via the grooves 7 during the suction stroke. During the compression stroke the groove 7 is isolated from the interior of the pistons, and as the pistons rise the leaf-springs 21 yield to permit fluid to flow from the interior of the piston to the delivery conduit 18. <IMAGE>
