Abstract

A packing (1) for heat or mass exchange, especially for cooling towers, comprising elongate layers (2) of a corrugated or folded foil or strip whereby in use adjacent layers (2) cross and support one another, wherein each layer (2) is vertically disposed and has upper and lower longitudinal edges, at least one of the said edges being a continuously straight longitudinal edge (4) and the corrugations or folds of each said layer (2) passing into said at least one straight longitudinal edge (4) via a transitional region (5). There is also disclosed a process for making the packing (1) from a foil or strip of thermoplastic plastics material, e.g. by extrusion. <IMAGE>
