Abstract

A choke coil for use as a ballast in electric discharge lamps consists of a wound electric coil 1 on the central leg of a laminated core formed from two stacks of laminations 30, 31. An air gap 39 is provided in the central leg. The abutting joints 5 between the laminations 30 and 31 extend transversely to the axis 6 of the coil 1 and the stacks of laminations are held together by snap connections 35, 37; 36, 38 which are situated on the inside of the laminated core and hold the stacks of laminations 30, 31 pressed against each other, at the same time minimizing the air gap 39. The use of E-, I-, T- and U-shaped laminations is envisaged. <IMAGE>
