Abstract

In a radial tyre reinforcement of the tyre shoulder zones without loss of riding comfort is achieved by placing strips 7 of cord fabric between two cord fabric breaker layers 4, 5 extending across the crown of the tyre, the strips being located at the axially outer edge portions of the layers. The cords of the layers 4, 5 are inclined at 20 DEG -30 DEG to the mid-circumferential plane, with the cords of one layer crossing those of the other, and the cords of the strips are substantially parallel to the mid-circumferential plane. Rubber wedge-section rings 6 may be placed between respective strips 7 and the layer 4, and a layer with cords at 1 DEG -89 DEG to the mid-circumferential plane may be located radially outwardly of the layer 5. The cords of the strips 7 may be of steel or of heat-shrinkable material. <IMAGE>
