Abstract
A cathode for an electrolyser comprises porous conductive material which includes sintered nickel impregnated with, as catalyst, a molbydate of nickel or iron or mixtures thereof. The invention is used for manufacturing hydrogen by electrolysing an aqueous alkaline solution. The cathode may be prepared by impregnating a sintered nickel support with ammonium molybdate solution, then a solution of nickel and/or iron salt (e.g. nitrate), and heating at 450 DEG C in hydrogen.
