Abstract

An electrical component, such as a resistor R6, is protected against overload by employing a reverse-biased rectifier element Gr2 in contact with or very close to the component to be thermally influenced by that component, so that heating of the component due to an excessive current flow correspondingly heats the rectifier element to allow an increased reverse current flow through it. This rise in reverse current causes temporary or continuous switch-off of the circuit which incorporates the component. In the multivibrator-controlled lamp flasher circuit shown, the rise in reverse current may simply decrease the mark : space ratio. <IMAGE>
