Abstract
A force and position transducer comprises a cantilever beam carrying at its free end a rigid moment arm 12 to which the force in the form of a moving load is applied. The beam carries one or more sets of strain gauges 1,4; 5,8 the arrangement being such that, with a load moving along the arm 12 a reversal of polarity in the signals generated by the sets of strain gauges 1,4; 5,8 is effected on the load passing the same. Thus, in the arrangement shown, force measurements are only taken with the load between the two sets of strain gauges and to this end a "window" generating logic 30 associated with the sets is provided. These sets may also provide the force measurement although separate strain gauges may be provided for the purpose. If only one set of strain gauges is provided force measurements are either taken upstream or downstream thereof. <IMAGE>
