Abstract

A capacitor comprises layers of metallic foil and layers of polymer film, which are arranged in a capacitor tank, electrically insulated from the tank by an outer insulation, and impregnated with a dielectric liquid with which the capacitor tank is filled. In order to achieve complete impregnation of the capacitor elements with the dielectric liquid, so that the elements are free from voids, the polymer film is a film comprising an olefin polymer, the dielectric liquid comprises benzyl neocaprate and the outer insulation is a porous material built up of olefin polymer fibres bonded to each other. In one embodiment the polymer film is polypropylene film and the fibres of the outer insulation are polypropylene or polyethylene fibres.
