Abstract

An operating mechanism for an auto-reclosing power circuit breaker is disclosed, having a contact closure mechanism, comprising a spring 8, adapted to effects rapid reclosing sequence. The closure means is arranged to be inhibited by a latch (14), which can be locked by a locking device (36) when the circuit breaker is in the closed state. Locking device (36) comprises a lever (31) having a locking projection (31B) engagable in a recess (14C) in the latch (14). Such engagement is produced by a connecting member which connects an arm (31C) of lever (31) to a part (18) of the closure mechanism, which part adopts a different position depending upon the switching state of the circuit breaker. Locking device (36) thereby prevents damage to any part of the circuit breaker if the closure mechanism is accidentally, due to faulty or erroneous closing signals being imparted to it, activated, while the circuit breaker is in a closed state. <IMAGE>
