Abstract

1,025,504. High voltage switches; actuation of switches. S. & C. ELECTRIC CO. May 29 1964 [Oct. 30, 1963], No. 22261/64. Heading H2B. A disconnecting switch has a pair of cooperating switch-blades carried by a pair of insulator stacks rotatably mounted on an elongated support 3, an operating arm for each stack, a crank-shaft 44 rotatably mounted intermediate the stacks, a pair of cranks 38, 39 extending from the shaft and a pair of links interconnecting the operating arms and the cranks. The portions 49 of the shaft 44 on opposite sides of the cranks 39 are offset to permit rotation of the shaft through slightly more than 180 degrees so that the cranks and links form an overset toggle to lock the mechanism in both open and closed position. Associated with the shaft 44 is a control mechanism 75 which includes a pawl 92 pivoted at 93 on an arm 88 secured to the shaft 44. When the shaft 44 is turned clockwise to open the switch, as shown in Fig. 24, the pawl 92 rides over ratchet teeth 84 but is effective to prevent any reverse rotation until the shaft reaches the fully open position. In this position a cam member 85 turns the pawl 92 so that a pin 95 enters a slot 112 in a plate 107 on the arm 88 to latch the pawl clear of the teeth 84. The movement of the pin 95 releases a pawl 113 so that when the shaft 44 is turned anti-clockwise to close the switch, the pawl 117 rides over the teeth 84. Should there be any reversal in the rotation of the shaft during this closing operation, the pawl 117 abuts a tooth 84 and causes the plate 107 to move and release the pawl 92 which moves into engagement with the teeth 84 and raises the pawl 117 from engagement with the teeth 84. It is now necessary to restore the mechanism to the fully open position before any attempt at reclosing can be made.
