Abstract

A spacer for a multi-layer insulating glass assembly comprises a frame (1) comprised of at least one hollow extruded member (6, 7) presenting an inwardly directed perforate wall (20) and containing a drying agent (24), the frame (1) having corners (2) and straight sides extending between the corners. To obviate corner joints, which would be liable to allow moisture to enter into the space within the frame, the ends of the member or members are joined together at at least one junction point (3, 4) located at a straight side of the frame. The spacer members may be made by forming 90 DEG bends in hollow tubular extruded material (18) containing drying agent and then cutting the material. Apparatus for producing the spacer comprises a guide track (13) for the extruded tubular material (18), a bending device (12) and a device (15) for cutting the extruded tubular material. <IMAGE>
