Abstract
A superconducting cable with filaments 4 embedded in a matrix 3 is produced from at least three individual conductors 2 which are held together by stranding together and/or by a metallurgical connection and which are reduced to at least a quarter of the original total cross-section by mechanical deformation, for example by drawing or rolling, and are then annealed. In an example, the filaments 4 comprise niobium or vanadium with a layer of tin, silicon, aluminium, germanium or gallium and at least partially form an intermetallic compound. The matrix metal is copper. The individual conductors are held together without any additional tube during the mechanical deformation. <IMAGE>
