Abstract

An impact-resistant toe-cap 10, for example of steel, has a covering by means of which it is secured to the shoe. The covering may comprise an adhered layer of leather or plastics or, as shown, a plastics coating 12 which incorporates a base board 11 and has a lip 13 which is stitched to the upper 9. The coated toe-cap is attached to the sole unit 18 by conventional bonding techniques. The coating 12 may form a peripheral flange for incorporation in a stitched welt. The coating protects the wearer against hard edges of the toe- cap and protects a steel toe-cap against corrosion. <IMAGE>
