Abstract

The screw of a plasticiser (2) which is provided with an intake roller (27), and a chopper (10) into which the strip (a) is intermittently delivered by a feed means e.g. a conveyor belt 4 and cutter 5, is provided with a flap (11) which is pivotable within the chopper between a position at which a first permanent magnet (17) carried by the flap (11) engages with a second permanent magnet (17') and actuates a switch (19) to commence the delivery of the strip, and a position displaced therefrom by a strip bearing on the flap (11), in which the switch (19) is deactuated to terminate delivery of the strip (9). The length of and the spacing between each strip i.e. the operation of the cutters, may be controlled by a similar flap at the downstream end of the conveyor, or by a counting device (26) into which is fed pulses produced from the drive transmission to the feed means. <IMAGE>
