Abstract

A water seal trap for a sink, basin, floor, etc has a dip tube 4 in a container 1<1>-1<2> connected to an outlet pipe 3. Around the tube 4 is an annular valve member 11 seated upon one end of a venturi portion 7 of the container and a projection 12 of a cover 9. The valve opens under negative pressure in the pipe 3 to allow inflow of air, preventing the water seal 6 being sucked away, and also flushing the system with air. Fig. 3 (not shown) illustrates a building wherein air-valved traps in different rooms are connected to a single stack outlet pipe (28) whose upper end has an extractor fan (29) so that air is drawn from the room through their waste traps to provide room ventilation. <IMAGE>
