Abstract

Apparatus for conveying articles G such as bottles or cans comprises a tapering channel along which the articles G are fed. The rate of convergence of the sides F of the channel increases in the travel direction of the articles. With such a construction, the throughput of articles can be maximised while the noise is reduced. In another aspect of the invention, a flow of articles which is more than two articles wide is subdivided into a number of smaller flows which are two articles wide. These smaller flows are reduced to single file flows which are re- combined to provide a single single file flow. Where the flows re-combine, the central wall between the combining flows may end in a flexible extension, which helps the two flows to merge smoothly. <IMAGE>
