Abstract

A side branch or ferrule for a pipeline or container includes a seal 4 on the body 1 of the side branch to seal the side branch to the pipeline, and a deformable olive 5 engaging the interior wall of the pipeline 8 to clamp the pipeline between the olive and a nut 2 on the side branch body. The deformable olive enables the use of one side branch with pipelines of differing diameters and/or wall thicknesses. The side branch may be fitted to pipeline or container by a side branch insertion machine or manually, and the pipeline or container can be either pressurized or unpressurized. <IMAGE>
