Abstract

A sheet of cross-linked polyethylene foam, having a density of between 50 and 175 kg per m<3>, is first covered on one side with strengthening material such as a layer of acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene (ABS) or with a layer of decorative material such as fabric or expanded polyvinylchloride (PVC), and the other side with a lining such as fabric. Then the covered sheet is moulded to form a shell which can be subsequently hinged to another shell to form an item of luggage.
