Abstract

A glass fibre web is coated with bitumenous composition on both sides to produce a material which can be used for example as a roofing material. The glass fibre web has little or no pre-bonding treatment prior to the application of the bitumenous composition in order to avoid the coated material becoming too brittle, which results from the use of bonding material. The coating preferably is applied to the glass fibre web by two applicator rollers which define a nip through which the web passes.
