Abstract

A latch needle (11) for a circular knitting machine, which has a lug (11b) projection below the lower control butt (11a) of the needle (11) in the longitudinal direction of the needle (11). The lug (11b) is engaged by holding members (14) surrounding the needle cylinder (13) when the needle (11) is arranged in the cylinder groove (12), thus preventing the needle (11) from moving out of the cylinder groove (12) under centrifugal force at the lower portion of the needle (11), where the mass is greater. The lug (11b) extends at least for the whole extent of the needle (11) lengthwise stroke. <IMAGE>
