Abstract

This invention relates to a mirror particularly suitable for harnessing solar energy. The mirror is formed of a sheet of impermeable flexible material having a reflective surface. The sheet comprises one wall of a closed rigid container 1 which can be partially evacuated to cause the mirror to take up a concave shape so that rays from a distant source, e.g. the sun can be focussed at a predetermined spot. Energy conversion means 13 such as a steam or Stirling cycle engine are positioned at this spot to utilise the concentration of heat. Tracking means 5 to 9 are provided to enable the mirror to track the sun all day so that the mirror always presents its full face to the rays of the sun. Other forms of curved mirror are described including one having a convex profile which is particularly suitable for use in e.g. lighting effects. <IMAGE>
