Abstract
A weighing scale, particularly an analytical balance, has a pan 12 which is counterbalanced by a rod or shaft 31, 32 along which a balance weight 22 is movable. A balance detector 20 detects a condition of balance. The weight may be moved along the rod or shaft by a motor-leadscrew 15, 21 arrangement. The rotation of the leadscrew is measured and used to indicate the weight of the load on the pan. The balance detector may be a null transducer comprising first and second bands 36, 37 e.g. of spring strip, and a third band 70 which carries strain gage means. The balance weight is supported on rollers separately from the leadscrew and a journal movable along the leadscrew is biassed by a predetermined amount into contact with the leadscrew, and is connected to the balance weight. <IMAGE>
