Abstract
200,000. Richardson, W. W. Oct. 3, 1922. Rotary washing-apparatus.-In frictional driving gearing for use with trommels, &c., of the kind in which the trommel is supported on rollers, some of which effect the drive, the wheels engage troughed tracks on the drum to prevent its end motion. In the form shown in Fig. 1, a trommel 6 is supported on each side of its longitudinal axis by single, twin, or triple rubber tyred friction driving wheels 7 arranged at opposite ends of two shafts 5, one shaft being driven by toothed and belt gearing 8, 12, &c.. and the other being driven from the first by chain gearing. The wheels 7 engage a track 35 secured to the trommel and carrying flanges 36 which are engaged by the wheels 7 to prevent end movement. Both shafts may be driven by chain gearing from a common countershaft. In a modification, the wheels 7 on one of the shafts 5 are not driven and act only as supporting-idlers. Rollers 32 engaging an end flange 34 of the trommel assist to prevent end movement. In driving a stepped trommel, Fig. 5, driving-wheels 7 are carried on parallel shafts 5 on a frame 23 at one end of the trommel. Idler wheels 17 carried on a separate frame support the other end of the trommel.
