Abstract

209,917. Cherne, A. G. Dec. 9, 1922. Chain wrenches; handles. - In pipewrenches of the kind comprising a hollow handle 10 carrying a toothed jaw 38 co-operating with the toothed links of a chain 22 secured at its inner end within the handle and adapted to engage at its outer end with hooks 46 on the handle, the chain is entirely enclosed' within the handla when not in use, and is preferably retracted within it by means of a spring 16. One end of this spring is secured to a plug 12 in the outer end of the handle, and the other is fixed to the end link 20 of the chain, a projection 26 on the link sliding in a groove extending part way inside the handle. The jaw end of the handle is formed into two branches 30, 32 from which reinforcing ribs 34, 36 extend. The end' link 40 of the chain is provided with a crosspin 42 for engaging behind the hooks 16.
