Rollers.-In a process for grooving rollers such as are used in textile machinery, one or more rolls a having peripheral ridges b<1> - - b<4> are rolled over the roller c in the direction of its axis, the full depth of groove being preferably formed at one working stroke and the work indexed between successive strokes. In Fig. 3 four rolls are arranged in a transverse plane in a head d, the rolls being mounted on arms pivoted to members g which are spring pressed against a bevelled adjusting ring h screwed over the head. The arms swing outwardly to withdraw the rolls from the work on the return stroke of the head and after the work has been indexed through 90‹ the ring h may be advanced till the full groove depth is attained. If grooves of non-uniform spacing are to be formed the rolls are provided with ridges of uniform profile but uneven spacing.
