Abstract

2057. Aitken, W., and British Insulated and Helsby Cables, Ltd. Jan. 27. Electrically-released switches.-In telephone systems in which a switch is moved manually to make a required connexion, it is arranged that the switch is held in the required position electro-magnetically until the connexion is broken by the hanging-up of the receiver or the like, whereupon the magnet is de-energized, and the switch released. The depression of the stud k completes contact between the spring m and one of a number of studs n. The stud is held down by the electro-magnet b and armature e while the magnet is energized and, when the circuit is broken by hanging up the receiver or otherwise, the coiled spring g returns the plunger f and push k to the normal position. The arm p moves round a serrated disk to ensure the arm j resting only on a stud. Series of contact-springs may be arranged round the magnet to be actuated by the arm j. Specifications 16,642/09 and 16,643/09, [Class 40, (iv), Telephones &c.], are referred to.
