Abstract
6813. Fabry, R. March 18. Gaseous-fuel furnaces.-Relates to horizontal or inclined regenerative coke ovens having vertical flues in which the current of heating-gases is reversed. Gas from a pipe 13 passes through a conduit 14 in the same direction as the regeneratively-heated air and escaping combustion products, in flues 3, 9, respectively. From the conduit 14, the gas passes into ducts 15 arranged in each or in every other partition between the heating- flues 5, 6, and is discharged into these flues from horizontal refractory nozzles 16, which are equally distributed along the ducts 15, and which are formed with diaphragms 31 at each or either end or at the middle, Fig. 7. The products of combustion flow up the flues 5 and down the flues 6 to the flue 9 leading to the regenerator. When reversal occurs, the gas is supplied from the pipe 23, the gas valves being preferably connected with the reversing-valve. For cleaning the ducts 15, removable plugs 17 are arranged opposite the inspection-openings 18, and the nozzles 16 and ducts 15 are cleared of soot by stopping the gas supply and drawing hot air from the regenerators through the nozzles 16 &c. to valved pipes 27, 26, which are connected to the chimney and provided with a steam jet or blower.
