Abstract

16,169. Swan, H. F. July 25. Liquid-carrying vessels; hulls; bulkheads.-Relates to the construction of vessels equally adapted for carrying liquid cargoes in bulk and for carrying cargoes of exceptional weight such as ores. The vessel is divided by two longitudinal bulkheads b, b and numerous transverse bulkheads. The longitudinal ones are not usually carried down to the bottom, but terminate at a raised floor or flat d. If possible, they are carried above the deck as shown in Fig. 2, to provide for the expansion of liquid cargoes, but, if this construction is unattainable, expansion tanks may be arranged as described in Specifications Nos. 14,080 and 15,711, A.D. 1885, and No. 4898, A.D. 1894.
