Abstract

161,392. B.S.A. Cycles, Ltd., and Pearsall, R. H. Feb. 14, 1920. Pistons.-A piston for an internal-combustion engine is built up of a grooved head 1, a skirt 11, 12 of bobbin shape having a perforated waist 13, and a central column 6 fitted within the waist and secured by a flange 5 to the head 1. The column 6 is provided with a shoulder 8 beneath which it is perforated similarly to the waist. Selfaligning gudgeon - pin bosses 14, provided with collars 15 and placed into position from the interior of the piston, are carried by the waist and the column. The skirt and column may be made in one as shown in Fig. 8. The shirt is made of greater depth at the front and back.
