Abstract

Cutting-out apparatus.-Relates to machines for cutting-out the four corners of rectangular blanks in the manufacture of cardboard boxes or lids, the blanks being cut at two corners by two sets of reciprocating cutters co-operating with two sets of fixed blades and then reversed, and consists in providing for relative adjustability between (1) the individual blades of the fixed and moving cutters, (2 )a set of moving blades with regard to its co-operating fixed set, and (3) the sets of blades as a whole, one or both sets being movable. The moving cutters comprise two blades b, c arranged at right-angles and secured in guideways on plungers a by keep-plates d and screws d<1> so as to be capable of lateral adjustment. The plungers move in guideways e secured to vertical frames e<1> by screws e<2> passing through horizontal slots in the frames. To the bases of the frames e<1> are secured guides k. k<1>, Fig. 4, in which are adjustably mounted the lower knives j, the edges of the knives and guides being undercut to allow movement. Operation of the knives is effected by cams h engaging rollers g on the spring-supported plungers a, one cam being wider than the other to allow for movement of the corresponding frame e<1>, or one continuous cam may be employed. Positioning of the work is effected by means of adjustable stops l, m adjustably secured to the framing f, a finger-guard n being provided. For punching square notches in the edge of the material, an intermediate cutter o. Fig. 5, is provided, the corresponding fixed die p being mounted in undercut guides p‹ between screws, p<1> which allow adjustment in both directions.
