Abstract

1532818 Reciprocating pumps AFA CORP 28 Oct 1976 [29 Oct 1975] 44948/76 Heading F1A A trigger-actuated, container-mounted, diaphragm pump comprises a diaphragm 17 defining a pumping chamber 20 communicating with a container 11 via dip tube 27 and with an outlet nozzle 29. Diaphragm 17 is supported by a member 18 having an aperture through which member 16, connected to trigger 14, passes to deflect diaphragm 17. As shown, flow to and from chamber 20 is controlled by a ball inlet valve 26 and an outlet check-valve constituted by part of a diaphragm 17 flexibly cooperating with the upper wall of chamber 20, Fig. 2 (not shown). In Fig. 3 (not shown), flow to and from the chamber is controlled by a slide valve (33) with an outlet passage (35) of larger crosssectional area than its inlet passage (34), delivery pressure moving the valve against a spring (51) from its intake position to its discharge position. In Fig. 4 (not shown), the outlet valve is located in the outlet nozzle and comprises a slidable member (49) movable by the delivery pressure to open an outlet passage (52) and formed with a swirlproducing groove (55). The container is vented via passages 32b, 32a and flexible washer 31.
