Abstract

1,163,444. Spray producers. AFA CORP OF FLORIDA. 20 Sept., 1966 [20 Sept., 1965], No. 41908/66. Heading B2F. A liquid spraying device which has a pressurising head 24 movably mounted on a container 22 and which has a pumping chamber 114 the volume of which is increased to draw liquid from a receptable 25 in the container 22 into the pumping chamber by telescoping the head inwardly with respect to the container and the volume of which is decreased to discharge liquid from the pumping chamber through a spray nozzle 148 by resilient means 76 stressed by the inward telescoping movement of the head. In an alternative embodiment the piston may be mounted on the head and adapted to move in a cylinder mounted on the container. Depression of the head compresses the spring 76 and draws liquid from the container through filter 60 and dip tube 56 to chamber 114 above check valve 86. On depressing button 140 the spring forces the liquid from chamber 114 through conduit 122 past valves 128 and 130 to nozzle 148. 1,163,473. Nozzles. [Also in Division B3] An adhesive supply apparatus for supplying an adhesive of viscosity at least 300,000 cps, comprises an adhesive meter unit for connection to a source of fluid adhesive under pressure and a dispenser nozzle coupled with the meter unit, the outlet diameter of the nozzle being of such size that the adhesive can emerge as a spiral bead which curls round to form a circular blob or button when it contacts a surface to which it is applied. Preferably the nozzle has a cylindrical chamber 6 communicating with and of larger diameter than the nozzle outlet, the chamber containing a valve seat 7 and spring-loaded ball valve 8 closing against the seat against the direction of flow of the adhesive. The nozzles may be made of brass or polytetrafluoroethylene, and a plurality may be made to dispense adhesive simultaneously, e.g. in the manufacture car engine hoods or luggage boot covers.
