Abstract

1532875 Underground roadway driving installation COAL INDUSTRY (PATENTS) Ltd 17 June 1977 [22 June 1976] 25883/76 Heading E1F Roof support canopy assembly securable to a roadway excavating machine to extend over at least a portion of the machine's cutting unit comprises a canopy, means, e.g. a pair of pivotable arms 42, 44, connectable to the machine for supporting the canopy, and means, e.g. telescopic struts 52 or jacks of settable length, associated with the canopy support means for limiting movement of the canopy away from the roof. The canopy comprises an arcuate beam 27 carrying abutment pads 28, 32. Guide means, e.g. plates 56, are mounted on the inner face of the beam 27 for contact by means 58 on the cutter-carrying boom of the machine for limiting the movement of the cutter within a pre-selected roadway profile. A vertically pivotable roof support erector 48 is mounted on the machine by arms 50 that serve as slideways for the transfer of roof support sections forwards from the rear of the machine.
