1532272 Coaxial cables STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES Ltd 20 Jan 1976 02144/76 Heading H1A A coaxial cable has an outer screen C made of a longitudinal strip of a conducting material, formed into a tube around the dielectric B, the overlap of the longitudinal edges F being in the range 10-20% of the circumference of the tube and being in electrical contact. This overlap is said to provide much better screening than the 5% in prior cables. The core A may have steel reinforcing wires sheathed in a copper tube. Dielectric B may be of polyethylene and shaved to size before fitting the screen C. For use as a submarine cable, external amouring (not shown) may be provided and only the shallow water lengths need have the increased overlap.
