Abstract

1524938 Catamarans CANTIERE NAVALTECNICA SpA 25 April 1977 [28 Oct 1976] 17099/77 Heading B7A A catamaran comprises two hulls 10 connected by a deck 11 and two or more hydrofoils 12 extending between the hulls and arranged during movement of the vessel to support a proportion of the weight to reduce drag and increase the distance between the water level and the lower part of the deck. Each foil has at least one vertical strut 13 connecting it to the deck 11. Flaps 14, 15 and 17, controlled by gyroscopic-accelerometric systems, control the vessel in roll, pitch and yaw respectively. In Fig. 4, not shown, the hydrofoils are of inverted V-shape form, with the vertical struts extending between the tips of the V and the deck.
