Abstract

1524391 Preparing stone- and clod-free seed beds W E SCORGIE 4 June 1976 [6 March 1975] 9453/75 Heading A1B Apparatus for preparing a stone-free and clod-free seed bed in a ready-furrowed field comprises one or more units, each of which has guide discs 6 which travel along adjacent ridges to guide towards a digger 1 the stones and clods, which are raised on an elevator 7, agitated by agitaters 8, allowing soil to fall between the rods of the elevator, whilst the remaining clods and stones pass to a pair of inclined plates 11 and drop into a furrow formed by a plough 9. In the next pass along an adjacent furrow, the wheels of the tractor T tramp the clods and stones into the subsoil, a process eased by a spring- loaded subsoiler 3 which also makes a leading track for the plough 9 and stabilises the machine. The plough 9 is attached to the digger 1 by a spring-loaded floating buckle which enables the plough to be lifted clear of the ground by a rope 13. The effect of a single pass of the machine is shown in Fig. 3, showing also a tractor wheel tramping the previous furrow between ridges (ii) and (iii). For multi-unit machines (not shown), a tramping wheel is provided at the rear of each unit, and these wheels also help to support the machine.
