Abstract

1,174,281. Agricultural implements; sowing seeds. "SISIS" EQUIPMENT (MACCLESFIELD) Ltd. 2 Dec., 1966 [3 Sept., 1965], No. 37861/65. Headings AlB and A1D. A method of tilling and drilling land having surface growth comprises the steps of forming a plurality of adjacent lines of slits in the land to a depth sufficient to expose soil beneath fibrous root matter of the growth, widening the slits and delivering seed to at least some of the widened slits. Apparatus for carrying out the method comprises a driven rotor 14 having a number of slitter blades, and hoppers 17, 18 each having a pair of rollers 19, 20 feeding material to the slits via flexible tubes 21b, 22b located between pairs of opener discs 23, 24. One hopper carries seed and the other, a fertiliser. A press-wheel 25 is located behind the hoppers. In a modification a single hopper may be provided to distribute seed only or a mixture of seed and fertiliser. The apparatus may be in the form of a trailer as shown or mounted on tractor lift links.
