Abstract
1522930 Exhaust gas treatment/power plant FIAT SpA 24 June 1977 [9 July 1976] 26620/77 Headings FIB and F1Q In a system for decreasing the pressure of exhaust gases in an I.C. engine the gas fed from the manifold 2 is expanded in turbine 4, cooled in heat exchangers 6, 10 and compressed in a compressor 20 driven by the turbine, to be expelled via pipe 22 at a pressure higher than atmospheric. The heat exchangers are air and liquid cooled respectively and a load 40 e.g. generator or blower may be driven from the turbine. Oil supplied to the turbine bearings via line 18 and becoming entrained in the exhaust gas may be recovered at point 26 which is below atmospheric pressure and returned to engine sump via pump 34. The heat exchanger 10, Fig. 4 may act as a boiler for a Rankine cycle driving load 64.
