Abstract
1284335 Gas turbine plant ROLLS ROYCE Ltd 15 April 1970 17920/70 Addition to 1272480 Heading F1G The invention of the parent Specification is modified in that means are provided for injecting water and/or steam into the gas flow through the gas turbine engine at or immediately upstream of the heating means so as to increase the power output of the engine. The engine shown comprises LP and HP compressors 14, 16 driven by LP and HP turbines 24, 20 respectively, the LP turbine driving also an alternator 27. The air from compressor 16 passes to combustion equipment 18 to which fuel is supplied, also water through line 29, the resulting gas and steam mixture passing to the turbines 20, 24. The mixture discharging from LP turbine 24 passes to a further turbine 30 in which it is expanded to sub-atmospheric pressure, the mixture discharging from turbine 30 into a cooler 34, water being sprayed into the cooler through spray device 38. The exhaust gases pass through outlet 42 to compressor 46 which is driven by turbine 30, the pressure of the gases being increased to atmospheric and then passed through heat exchanger 54 and discharged to atmosphere. The water and condensate from the cooler 34 are withdrawn through pump 50. The water supplied to combustion chamber 18 is passed through pump 66, filter 68, the heat exchanger 54, where it is heated by the gases being discharged from compressor 46, then through a further heat exchanger 62 where it is further heated by gas and steam mixture passing from the LP turbine 24 to the further turbine 30.
