Abstract
1522389 Desulphurizing gases BRITISH GAS CORP 26 Nov 1976 [27 Nov 1975] 48815/75 Heading C1A [Also in Division C5] Hydrogenatable sulphur compounds are removed from a gas by subjecting it to hydrodesulphurization in presence of a catalyst consisting substantially of copper, zinc oxide and alumina, at not more than 375‹C. A suitable catalyst contains zinc oxide (30-50 weight per cent), copper (20-30 weight per cent, calc. as oxide) and gamma-alumina (balance). The gas may be one having methanation potential produced by non- catalytic hydrogenation and partial oxidation of fossil fuels. In Examples, thiophene and CoS are removed from a gas mixture containing H 2 , CO, CO 2 , CH 4 and N 2 .
