Abstract
1480001 Purifying combustible gas TEXACO DEVELOPMENT CORP 22 Sept 1975 [10 Oct 1974] 38747/75 Heading C5E Synthesis gas comprising carbon monoxide and hydrogen and containing entrained particulate carbon is purified by contacting with a liquid comprising at least one molten metal carbonate. The gas treated can be produced by the partial oxidation of a fuel, such as coal, coke, fuel oil or natural gas, with an oxygencontaining gas. The purification can be effected by passing the gas upwardly through a bath of molten lithium, sodium and/or potassium carbonate, e.g. at 750-1750 F., to remove sulphur compounds and particulate carbon. The molten carbonate can be regenerated with carbon dioxide.
