Abstract

1520271 Ship loading ramp CARGOSPEED EQUIPMENT Ltd and J G BROWN 4 July 1975 [6 April 1974] 15356/74 Heading B7A A ferry or like ship has a lower deck 2 leading to a main deck 21, and an upper deck 22. A stern door 4 is raisable in channel members 5 to open or close an arcuate doorway 3. A platform 6 supported on a cross-beam 7 pivotally mounts a loading ramp 8 at 9 and has vertical pillars 17 pivotally mounting arms 18 connected by links 19 to a mid-point of the ramp which is tiltable about the pivot 9 by a ram 20. The end of the main ramp part 10 is tapered at 11 with triangular flaps 12, 13 freely pivoted to the edges and having a tail-piece 14 pivoted thereon to allow flat engagement with a quay even if the part 10 is inclined. The platform 6 is rotatable and is raisable by rams 15 moving in trackways 16. From a stowed position, Fig. 1, inboard on the longitudinal axis of the ship the ramp 8 can be raised with the platform 6 by the rams 15 and swung to over a quay astern or on either quarter, Fig. 2. According to the height of the tide the height of the ramp can be adjusted to give access to the main deck 21 through the doorway 3 or, with the door 4 lowered, to the upper deck 22, Fig. 3. Two other embodiments described show different mountings for the ramp and different means of control and also means for rotating the ramp about the vertical axis.
