Abstract

1517721 Locks WILMOT-BREEDEN Ltd 3 March 1976 [26 June 1975] 27140/75 Heading E2A Vehicle door latches are locked and unlocked or shot and retracted by electromagnets fed with pulses of current which are widely spaced to reduce heating of the electromagnet coils. As shown in Fig. 1, latch bolt solenoids 510, 511, 512 and 513 on the respective doors of the vehicle are double-wound to move the bolts to and from their fastening positions under the control of an individual door switch P12 or P13 operable by the sill button or an outside key-lock, or a dashboard switch CS1. These controls are connected to fastening and releasing relays 15, 16 through a control unit 14. Relays 15, 16 also control a boot-lid fastening mechanism at B5. The various control switches are of the two way form shown at 5 in Fig. 2, to provide the separate fastening and releasing functions. Generators AC provide trains of pulses to the operating coils through relays R. The pulses may be a tenth of a second during each second. A transistor circuit involving two monostable elements and a Darlington pair circuit is also described for producing the same effect.
