Abstract

1516401 Spray-producers HOTACO AS 14 Jan 1976 [20 Jan 1975 2 May 1975] 2289/75 and 18408/75 Heading B2F [Also in Divisions El and E2] Apparatus for producing a fibre-reinforced construction material comprises an inner tube 1, an intermediate tube 2 surrounding said inner tube and having an inlet 3 for introducing pressurized air into the chamber between said tubes 1 and 2, an annular insert 4 mounted between the downstream ends of said tubes 1 and 2 and having a plurality of inwardly inclined bores 5 whose axes meet at a point downstream of the apparatus, and an outer tube 6 surrounding said tubes 1 and 2 and having an inlet 7 for admitting construction material and an opening 9 downstream of the insert 4. In an alternative embodiment the insert 4 comprises an inner part with a frusto-conical outer surface fitted around the inner tube 1 and an outer post with a corresponding frusto-conical inner surface fitted in the tube 2, thereby defining a converging annular passage whose width can be adjusted by longitudinal movement of one of the two parts. The outer tube 6 has an annular insert 8 mounted in its downstream end and is mounted on the tube 2 by a screw thread so that the distance between the inserts 4 and 8 can be adjusted. In use, construction material such as mortar or plastics is supplied through the inlet 7, fibres are supplied to the inner tube through an opening 13 into which a cutter may be fitted, an air-borne stream of fibres is produced in the inner tube by means of air supplied through an inlet 11, and pressurized air is supplied through the inlet 3 and discharged as jets through the bores 5; the fibres and construction material are mixed together just before leaving the apparatus through the opening 9 and the jets of air tend to concentrate the mixture in front of the apparatus. If unhardened plastics is used as the construction material, hardening agent may be supplied with the pressurized air through the inlet 3; the air causes atomization of the hardening agent.
