Abstract

1514924 Conductor joints RAYCHEM Ltd 1 Aug 1975 [5 Aug 1974] 34395/74 Heading H2E A heat shrinkable sleeve 2 has at least one open end, a portion of the inner surface having a conductive liner 3 remaining in void-free contact with the sleeve after shrinking, and the inner surface of the or each open end of the sleeve having an insulating sealant 4. See patent Specifications 1,337,952, 1,337,951 and 1,303,432 for suitable materials to form the sleeve. The liner may be of polymeric material incorporating conductive fillers, e.g. carbon black, metal flakes or powders, preferably being a mastic (examples), a hot melt adhesive (examples) or a thermosetting adhesive possibly incorporating processing aids and antioxidants, but also possibly being a non-adhesive plastics material, e.g. polyolefines (examples). The liner may be heat shrinkable, and be such that it melts, filling any voids. The sealant is preferably an insulating mastic or thermosetting adhesive. The liner and sleeve may be extruded simultaneously, or separately and then be bonded together.
